The Best Films to Watch on a 4K TV

There can be nothing better than kicking back with a bucket of popcorn and enjoying a great movie from the comfort of your living room!

Whether you’re a fan of action adventures or romantic tearjerkers, the increasing abundance of online streaming services and smart TVs has probably got something for you.

Being in the comfort of your own home does not mean you have to sacrifice quality visuals! Ultra high definition and 4K televisions are becoming more popular and widely available. It is now more possible than ever to achieve the very best visuals and audio from home.

Here, we take a look at some of the best movies to watch on a 4K TV to help take your home cinema experience to the next level!

Arrival (2016)

This one’s for fans of aliens, mystery and stunning visuals! This science fiction film will leave you thinking about language, metaphor and connection for days.

The film follows a linguistics expert, played by Amy Adams, who must learn to communicate with a group of mysterious aliens who have suddenly arrived on Earth.

With its melancholy colour pallet and exploration of language’s role in reality, Arrival is a bit of a slow burn, but it’s worth it in the end!

Deadpool (2016)

In the wave of traditional superhero movies, this film is a breath of fresh air. Prepare yourself, because the visuals on this one can get a little intense!

The action-comedy centres around Wade Wilson, whose life is transformed after a twisted scientist’s experiments leave him with whole-body scars and supernatural powers. We follow Wade on his quest to get revenge on his scientist nemesis; the journey is perfectly paced and hilarious.

As far as superhero movies go, this is a pretty unconventional one. With brilliantly-choreographed stunts and a catchy soundtrack, you won’t want to miss out on Deadpool!

The Martian (2015)

No aliens in this one, but that’s hardly to its detriment! This movie is intense in the best possible way.

Astronaut Mark Watney is abandoned on Mars after his crew presume that he has died in a storm. He must use what’s at hand to survive on the planet while those back on Earth plan for his rescue.

His laidback attitude makes for a comical watching experience, and you just can’t help but cheer for him.

Wonder Woman (2017)

We’ve already had a (sort of) superhero movie on this list, but female superheroes are few and far between. Wonder Women is a wonderful movie in its own right.

Set in the First World War, the action follows Diana, princess of an all-female race of Amazonians, as she ventures into the world to stop the god Ares from masterminding the war.

The beautiful period costumes and sets alone are worth watching!

This is another film with an awesome soundtrack. To get the most out of amazing movie soundtracks, it might be worth considering looking into sound systems. For more help in this department, check out our beginner’s guide to surround sound.

1917 (2019)

For a more recent recommendation, we’ve chosen 1917. This stunning historical film also set in the First World War follows two young British soldiers tasked with the mission of delivering a message over enemy territory.

1917 is unique in that you view it as one unbroken shot. You move through scenes with the characters without any cuts to black. To really do this technological feat justice, it is worth watching in 4K with high resolution.

If you’re up for an incredibly immersive rollercoaster, this one’s for you!
